Bao Buns with Sticky Chicken and Hoisin

🥘 Ingredients

  • carrots 2
  • cucumber 1
  • spring onions 2
  • cilantro 1 bunch
  • red chili 1
  • soy sauce 1 tbsp
  • honey 1 ½ tbsp
  • sesame oil 1 tsp
  • sesame seeds 2 tbsp
  • lime ½
  • garlic 1 clove
  • chicken 500 g
  • bao buns 12
  • chili mayo 4 tbsp
  • hoisin sauce 4 tbsp

    Peel the carrots into wide ribbons with a vegetable peeler. Cut the cucumber into fine strips. Cut the spring onions into fine strips. Roughly chop the cilantro . Slice the red chili thinly. Arrange the vegetables on a large platter.

    Stir together soy sauce , honey , sesame oil , sesame seeds , the juice of lime , and the grated garlic to make the marinade.

    Cut the chicken into small cubes. Heat a pan over medium-high heat with a little neutral oil and fry the chicken until golden.

    Pour the marinade into the pan and spoon it over the chicken until it glazes. Let the chicken fry for a further 3 minutes , stirring.

    Steam the bao buns in a bamboo steamer, or on a heatproof plate or sieve set over a pot of simmering water with the lid on, until warm and soft, 8 minutes .

    Put chili mayo and hoisin sauce in small bowls and serve alongside the vegetables, steamed buns and sticky chicken. Fill the buns with everything.
