📝

This sauce is freezer-friendly! Freeze in a jar with a bit of space at the top, then defrost in the fridge overnight before using. Once defrosted, stir well and add freshly squeezed lime juice to taste.

  1. 1
Prepare: hemp seeds/hearts , Freshly boiled water, freshly squeezed lemon juice from medium lemons , freshly squeezed lime juice , fresh basil leaves , garlic cloves , nutritional yeast , extra virgin olive oil , kosher salt , Freshly cracked black pepper to taste.
  2. 2
Add the hemp seeds to a heatproof bowl and cover with boiling water to soak for 10 minutes (this helps remove some of the bitterness of hemp seeds).
  3. 3
While the hemp seeds soak, add all of the other ingredients to a small-capacity blender (or stand blender).
  4. 4
When the hemp seeds are done soaking, drain in a fine mesh strainer and rinse with fresh water. Add to the blender. Blend, starting on low then increasing to high, until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as you go. If it’s too thick to blend, add 1 tablespoon (15 mL) water at a time.
  5. 5
Taste for seasonings, adding more lime (or lemon) juice for tang, more nutritional yeast for savoriness, or salt to taste. If too acidic, add 1/4-1/2 tsp of sugar/maple syrup/agave and blend again.
  6. 6
Add to a jar, seal, label, and refrigerate for 5 to 6 days.
