- toor dal Β½ cup
- water 1 Β½ cup
- water 1 cup
- tamarind 1 tbsp
- onion 1/4-1/2 cup
- bhindi 2-3 pcs
- carrot 1 pc
- sunflower seed oil 1-2 tbsp
- methi pinch
- rai pinch
- jeera pinch
- haldi pinch
- water 2 cup
- sambar spice
- lime
- ghee
- salt
Cooking the Dal

1Optionally, soak toor dal in water for 30 minutes , then discard the soaking water.

2Rinse the dal four times, then drain.

3Pressure cook the dal with water for 4 whistles .
Preparing the Vegetables

1Microwave a small bowl of water for 30 seconds . Place tamarind in the warm water to soak and soften.

2Chop onion into pieces.
-
3Trim the top and bottom of bhindi and make a slit down the center of each.

4Cut carrot into pieces.
All Together Now

1In a large pot over medium heat, warm sunflower seed oil .

2Add a methi , rai , jeera , and haldi . A metal plate to pre-mix the spices before adding to heat is helpful here.

3Squeeze and pulp the soaked tamarind into the pot and stir.

4Add the pressure-cooked dal, water , and a sprinkle of sambar spice .
Finishing Up

1Add the prepared vegetables. If the dal looks too thick, add more water.

2Let it boil until the vegetables are cooked through and the yellow rawness is gone from the surface. until done

3Serve mixed with rice, a squeeze of lime , and optionally ghee . Add salt to taste.
