Brazilian Rice

🥘 Ingredients

  • long-grain rice 1 cup
  • olive oil ¼ cup
  • onion 1
  • garlic 3 cloves
  • water 2 cups
  • salt ¼ tsp
  • cilantro (optional)

🍳 Cookware

  • colander
  • medium-sized pot
  • fork

    Rinse the long-grain rice in a colander under cold water.

    Add the olive oil to a medium-sized pot on medium high heat. When the oil is hot, add the finely diced onion and minced garlic . Sauté for 4 minutes , stirring constantly.

    While that is cooking, boil 2 cups of water (or heat up a tea kettle).

    Add the rinsed rice to the pot and stir for 2 minutes .

    Now add the boiling water and salt . Reduce heat to simmer and cook the rice, covered, for 20 minutes .

    Turn off the heat and remove the pot's lid. Let the rice sit for 5 minutes then fluff with a fork .

    Optionally top the rice with fresh chopped cilantro (optional) and serve.
