Soften @butter{1%pound}(2 cups) until very soft. Mix @sugar{2%cups} and butter. Add @eggs{6} and mix well. Add @flour{6%cups} and @anise seed{5%tablespoons} mixing well. Stand in a cold place overnight. Roll to about 1/8 inch thick on well floured board. Use about 1/6 of dough at a time. Cut into circles or shapes. Use un-greased #pan{}, bake in oven at about 350 to 375 degrees F until golden brown. For plain cookies, use brandy in place of anise seed.
